Farmers Market to Host Business Showcase Tonight

The Friday Night Family Festival will welcome some new faces tonight. The Monrovia Chamber of Commerce will present its seasonal Business Showcase tonight from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 700 block of Myrtle Avenue in Old Town, across from the Paragon Luxury Apartments.

Attendees will include Chamber members - including the City of Monrovia's Redevelopment and Economic Development Team (R/ED Team). Be sure to stop by the R/ED Team's booth to meet the staff, learn more about the Online Business Resource Center and to get up to speed with upcoming projects.

How Do You Start Your Workday?

Like many of us, it looks like Mark Twain starts his day off by reading the paper. He was spotted Thursday morning taking in the daily news after someone figured he was tired of his book.

This iconic statue was added in 2003 to Library Park in Monrovia. 

This statue was the impetus of the City's Arts in Public Places Program, which was started back in 2004. Developers with projects of more than $1 million pay 1 percent of their total project into this fund, which has paid for the Old Town arch, the Train Stop at Paragon, and the painting of the electrical boxes in Old Town. 

The program has been received positively by reisdents and the business community. Businesses benefit because it creates a more inviting community, and the murals and the painting of electrical boxes has proven to deter graffiti.

Success in a Bottle: Meet the Wine of the Month Club

A small retail store with an international following has called Monrovia home for nearly 20 years. The Wine of the Month Club is run by Paul Kalemkiarian, Jr., who took over the business from his father in 1990. 

The company started off as a side business when Paul's father bought a pharmacy that had a liquor store attached. Forty years later, the Wine of the Month Club has thousands of patrons, and has been able to withstand competition from the Internet by depending on loyal customers, research, and Paul's palate.

Paul -- who in the video answers the most common question, 'What do you do with the wine you don't like?' -- takes us through his store, his studio and his tasting room.
